GRAYS FERRY COMMUNITY COUNCIL

The Grays Ferry Community Council is one of the oldest community organizations in Philadelphia.  The Council was originated out of a proposal made at a meeting on neighborhood issues in October 1941.

Its purpose was to serve as a representative organization to promote neighborhood unity for the improvement of social and physical conditions, and to channel common arms into effective action which develops coordination and cooperation among neighbohood groups and individual citizens.  It was reorganized in the early 1960's and pushed for a redevelopment program of conservation and rehabilitation of the neighborhood with the help and cooperation of area priest, ministers and the support of elected representatives.
